What do I need to run klango-applications?

First of all, you need a PC with the Windows operating system. Next, there comes DirectX, at least in version 8.1. This version is preinstalled in Windows XP; for older versions of Windows you have to download an appropriate package from the DirectX webpage. The third and most important thing is Klango Environment, which is required by all Klango-applications. In most cases, Klango is delivered together with the Klango-application (with Klango inside its installer). A "good" installer always checks for the presence of Klango and installs it if necessary. Remember though that you can always download latest version of Klango from http://www.klango.pl website and install it manually.

What are minimal hardware requirements?

The oldest computer on which we've (successfully) tested Klango was Pentium 166MHz with 32MB of RAM and ordinary old-style stereo soundcard. Of course it's far from the ideal ;) A reasonable PC would be Pentium II 600MHz with 128MB of RAM and multichannel (4, 5.1, 6.1 and so on) soundcard. Such soundcards use better algorithms for mixing and positioning of spatial sound(s). It's also good to have a gamepad or a joystick because in most Klango-apps they can be used instead of the keyboard, which is probably a more comfortable solution.

I think some sounds are missing...

Check the setting of speakers in Windows' Control Panel. Make sure that this setting (headphones, stereo speakers, quadro, 5.1, etc.) coresponds precisely to speakers (hardware) connected to your computer. If you use headphones - set there "headphones", if you use turbo giga 7.1 super boost speakers - choose adequate setting in Control Panel. If you don't do so you can expect some problems. For example, if you use (two channel) headphones and you have set 4.1 speakers in the Control Panel, Klango(-application), and any other application that uses 3d-sound, mix their sounds onto four channels and the final sound/signal is split between four connectors of speakers. Your headphones are connected to two of them ...and you lose half of the signal!

My SoundBlaster Live sounds strange...

In the Internet one can find many 'painful' stories about SB Live (disappearing sound, crackles and so on). Unfortunately such 'effects' sometimes appear in Klango(-applications) working on a SB Live. We have tested Klango on many soundcards but only SB Live has created problems. As far as we know there is no guaranteed solution. In the Internet you can find advice such as "install new drivers (from the Creative Labs website)", "plug the card in a different PCI slot", "turn off unused LPT and COM ports" or even "change the soundcard" :) There are also well known conflicts of SB Live with VIA chipsets but it's easy to find and install an appopriate patch.

What is the purpose of the F8 key?

Pressing the F8 key you switch between stereo and surround modes. This setting is INDEPENDENT from settings in Control Panel! More precisely: Klango-applications can't determine how many speakers you use and by pressing F8 you can help them to correct the positions of sounds in the 3d space. The state of the F8 key is read by the currently running Klango-application BUT the application is not obliged to use this information(!). Though, if this is a case, the app can change positions of sounds. Why is it so important? Because with stereo speakers sometimes it's hard to distinguish sounds which are behind and in front of the player. In such a situation, the application can move all the sounds into "front halfspace" and use a different alghorithm of positioning, which results in a much better reception of the program. "Pirate Memory Game" is an example of such an application - try pressing F8 key and listen to the differences. In "stereo mode" all sounds are in front of the listener and special "topologies" of the rectangular boards are used. In "surround mode" the listener is always in the center of the board...

How can I post my high scores?

If you are connected to the Internet, just use Klango - choose an adequate item in its main menu. If you haven't got an internet connection, use hiscores.exe - a small application delivered together with Klango. Use this program to save your results to a floppy disk and later, when you have access to the network, to post them to our server... hiscores.exe will be written to the floppy disc together with your hiscores.

How can I report bugs?

It depends. If you think that the bug sits in Klango Environment - report it to Klango.pl team. If you have found a bug in one of the Klango-apps - report it to the authors of the app. In both cases please use the support form or relevant e-mail adresses. There is one more thing - Klango generates two special files - log.html and klango-error.log (in case of an error). By sending them together with your report, you can increase chances for succesful repair...
